A
family building in Colorado contacted us about designing and building
their timber frame home after seeing our work in a number of pavilions
we had done near their home in The Woodlands, Texas. Their new home features
an unusual timber frame design that not only transfers the rather heavy
snow loads present in this mountain location, but also withstands the
rather common high winds (80 mph) coming down from Horn Mountain.
We
had to deal with these winds during the raising, and they do get your
attention. For numerous reasons, we used kiln dried Southern Yellow Pine
for the frame. The living room timber frame with its soaring ceiling and
the interlacing timbers is further set off by the massive stone fireplace
and large ceramic floor tiles.
